Mexican Artists,
Mexica Sun Stone

We study the Mexican muralist movement and each artist’s desire to continue the respect for and revitalization of Mexico’s indigenous history. That history includes a study of the Mexica, one of Mexico’s indigenous peoples, their beliefs, religious practices and art forms, particularly the Sun Stone. Students then apply their research of a modern Mexican artist’s life and memorialize that person through their own group artwork based on the Sun Stone. This project uses art elements and practices of the Mexica people to showcase the art, lives and influences of several 20th Century Mexican artists.
