Reimagining What’s Possible: Activating Literacy for Critical Consciousness

The eleventh grade theme, “Reimagining What’s Possible: Activating Literacy for Critical Consciousness” is the year students examine theories about class, race and gender in American society through various lens/perspectives. Students recognize how class, race and gender function in society, in their daily lives, and in the study of American art and architecture. In addition, eleventh grade emphasizes community building and cooperative groups so that students begin to acquire the skills needed for work environments in the future. For this reason, in addition to individual art assignments there are group projects that incorporate drawing, painting and assemblage.
